Oscar Pistorius – GQ's Superhuman of the Year
Fresh from his extraordinary performances and starring roles at the Olympics and Paralympics, Oscar Pistorius was photographed exclusively for GQ Style magazine.
As GQs reining Best Dressed Man of the Year, Pistorius is known to break barriers in both sport and fashion.
He is a national treasure, says journalist Jason Alexander Basson, who interviewed Pistorius for the magazine. He is a symbol of the struggle for freedom, not only from the challenges associated with being a double amputee, but also from popular misconceptions that depict disability as an alien condition.
In Pistoriuss opinion, we need to create societies where the facts are dealt with rather than treated as an elephant in the room.
The Frock Report congratulates all winners, especially Oscar
We dont need to hide or sugar-coat disability because its nothing to be ashamed of The only way to overcome our ingrained cultural stigmas is to open up and communicate about them, Pistorius told the magazine.
Fashion evokes emotion. It also serves as a visual insight into another person. You can tell what mood theyre in not only by what theyre wearing, but by the way in which they wear it.
